07:00 Uhr Abholung in der Hotellobby des Toten Meeres und 3-stündige Fahrt zur roten Rosenstadt Petra, einem der Neuen Sieben Weltwunder und seit 1985 UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Vor mehr als 2.000 Jahren meißelten die nabatäischen Araber hier erstaunliche Monumente in den Sandstein. Die Nabatäer gelangten zu Reichtum, indem sie die Handelswege des alten Arabiens beherrschten, gerieten aber 106 n. Chr. unter römische Herrschaft. Besucher betreten Petra über den Siq, einen beeindruckend schmalen Pfad, der von 80 Meter hohen Felsen flankiert wird, bis zur Schatzkammer. Ihr Name leitet sich von dem Glauben der Beduinen ab, dass der Pharao seinen Schatz in der Urne an der Spitze des Kazneh versteckt hat. Das Monument besteht aus einer massiven, 30 Meter breiten und 43 Meter hohen Fassade, die im frühen 1. Jahrhundert aus rotem Sandstein gehauen wurde. Weitere Denkmäler, die Sie sehen werden, sind die Straße der Fassaden und die Königsgräber. Der Fremdenführer verabschiedet sich von Ihnen und Sie gehen denselben Weg zurück zum Eingangstor.

- A 700 meters horse ride from the main gate to the beginning of the Siq is included in the admission fee Petra. Horse handler expects a tip of 5 JD per horse. Horse drawn carriage, camel or donkey ride can be booked for certain distances and paid on spot.
